Privacy notice
This explains what information Illuminate Labs collects when you use this site, why, and what happens to it. It's written for anyone using the site, including students aged 16 and 17.
Who we are

We need the legal name of the organisation acting as data controller here (e.g. "Illuminate Labs" as an unincorporated project, a specific charity, or a company), plus a registered address if one applies.
If you're under 16
We don't collect any personal information from you. You can browse events on this site without giving us your name, email, or anything else. There's no form to fill in, and nothing you do here is saved against your identity.
If you're 16 or 17
Browsing events and seeing your matches doesn't require any personal information. If you choose to apply to join a group session, we ask for your name, email, school or organisation, and a parent or guardian's name and email, plus anything you choose to write about what you're looking for.
We email your parent or guardian a short confirmation before your application is reviewed. Nobody is placed in a group session until they've confirmed it themselves — this isn't something you can confirm on their behalf, and ticking the checkbox on the application doesn't skip this step.
Applications from this age group are never turned into a one-to-one introduction. If approved, you join a small group session — around five students, one mentor, and an Illuminate Labs facilitator on the call throughout. A member of our team reviews every application, including a safeguarding check, before anyone is placed. The mentor's personal contact details are never shared with you directly — Illuminate Labs sends you the session details (date, time, how to join) instead.
If you're 18 or over
Seeing your matches doesn't require any personal information. If you request an introduction to a mentor, we ask for your name, email, school or organisation, and anything you write about what you're looking for. A member of our team reviews your request first — mentors never receive your details automatically. If approved, we send you and the mentor a short email introducing you to each other.
Who sees your information
Illuminate Labs staff who review applications and requests. For 16–17 applications, a named safeguarding reviewer confirms the application before any group placement, and a parent or guardian confirms it too. We don't sell or share your information with anyone outside Illuminate Labs. If you're 18 or over and your request is approved, the mentor you requested receives your name and email so you can connect directly. If you're 16 or 17, mentors never receive your details directly — Illuminate Labs stays the point of contact throughout.
Why we collect it, and on what basis

We need the lawful basis for processing this data under applicable data protection law — most likely consent or legitimate interest, but this should be confirmed rather than assumed, particularly for the 16–17 age group given the safeguarding context.
How long we keep it

We need a retention period for application data — e.g. deleted after a set number of months if not approved, or after a defined period following a completed placement.
Your rights
You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, at any time.
